There’s always stuff that comes up during Christmas and this year was no different. Hence after a long drive and working morning there’s a need for a sandwich and ideally a stout or porter. By sandwich I mean Sandwich, as in an event.
So with a need for a suitable event, a stalwart beverage and something within close distance of Finch Lodge I made my way over to the Marris & Otter, a public house located very close by.
There were a few options including the usual burger and chips. With it being Christmas there were of course the usual specials. However, I opted in for a BLT and a Harvey’s Old Ale for an ideal winter lunch.
Wordplay aside, this was a great BLT which I thoroughly enjoyed. The salad and chips were also delicious and I had made a reasonable dent in the Old Ale before my food arrived. I had to stop myself from ordering another another round of both Sandwich and ale.
Even with the great food the staff have always been attentive and wonderful and the kitchen is open which is always a sign of a confident establishment. The Marris & Otter is also just a nice place to be with the sort of seating you could sit in for hours and standing tables with stools which is always a personal favourite.
I’ll also freely admit that the feature wall with the brewing process is a great read. The same character and effort put into painting an eight step brewing process into the corner of your pub also goes into making sure your patrons have a good time. I had a great time and will hit up a BLT again in 2023.
